An Advance Health Directive allows you to give specific directions about your future medical treatment should you be unable to communicate your concerns.
For example, you may have religious or other objections to particular types of medical treatment, such as blood transfusions.
An Advance Health Directive can also give directions about matters such as turning off life support, and has priority over a decision purported to be exercised under an Enduring Power of Attorney.
Because of the seriousness of these decisions, you will also need to consult with a doctor prior to execution of the document.
Terminal illness and other debilitative disease are usually unexpected events, and so we recommend that you contact us immediately if you wish to protect your interests for the future.
We regard these matters as very important and will attempt to finalise the required documentation as soon as possible.
You may also wish to consider making a Will and Enduring Power of Attorney.
